TIMELINE OF LINNWOOD ACHIEVEMENTS

12/11/2001
Inaugural meeting of "Save Linnwood Hall Working Party".

Following concerns over possible development proposals for the Linnwood Hall site, this meeting was convened to allow community involvement and participation in planning action for the preservation of this heritage site for the general community. This was followed by intense activity over the next few months by the "Save Linnwood Hall Action Group" Working Party, local community members and interested parties, to raise awareness of the threat of development of the site and petition Government for Heritage listing.

Application for Interim Conservation Order.

March 2002
Announcement by Kim Yeadon, Minister for Western Sydney and Member for Granville and the Premier, Bob Carr, that the title of the Linnwood Estate will be transferred to the Heritage Office of N.S.W.
Action Group changed name to "Friends of Linnwood." Committee formed.

April 2002
First committee meeting held.
"Friends of Linnwood" registered with Department of Fair Trading.
Heritage Office Steering Committee for Linnwood formed.
Approval for "Open Days" at Linnwood given by Heritage Office.
Linnwood logo designed by Jacqui Douglas and approved by committee.

May 2002
Public Liability and Voluntary Worker insurance cover taken by Friends of Linnwood.
Bank statement $799.11.
FOL shared stall in Holroyd Festival.
Holroyd Council agreed to maintain grounds.
$3000 held in trust by Holroyd Council for Linnwood transferred to FOL bank account.

June 2002
Friends of Linnwood Incorporated 1st July, 2002.
Tenders called for position of Property Consultant.

July 2002
First public meeting of FOL held in Linnwood.
Murray Brown from Heritage Office addressed meeting.
Linnwood Estate officially listed and under ownership, control and protection of the Heritage Office of N.S.W.
Letterhead designed.
Newspaper advertising by FOL for "past girls" from Linnwood.

September 2002
Tender for position of Property Consultant for Linnwood won by City Plan Heritage. Stephen Davies and Peter Woodley from this company addressed the meeting.
Breakfast meeting of Heritage Council held at Linnwood.
Linnwood website operating.
Floor plan of Linnwood drawn up.

Oct 2002
Laurie Ferguson accepted invitation to be patron FOL.
FOL souvenirs, book "Chronicles of George McCredie" printed, Linnwood
calendar and Linnwood carry bags produced for sale.

'Antique' sewing machine donated to Linnwood.

Open Day at Linnwood to thank community for their support. 700 to 800 people attended.
Over $3000 raised on day.
Descendant of George McCredie and past residents of Linnwood attended, also Assistant Director Heritage Office, Kim Yeadon MP, Mayor of Holroyd Council and other councillors.
Entertainment Liz Lidis, Holroyd City Band and K Troop.

Peter Woodley and Stephen Davies from City Plan Heritage reported on work arising from Conservation Management Plan.
"Friends of Linnwood" now incorporated and constitution drawn up.

First Open House Day, Linnwood. 70-80 visitors attended.
Holroyd Arts & Crafts displayed and sold goods.
FOL Christmas function -50 members plus Arts & Crafts ladies.

January 2003
Industrial strength vacuum cleaner supplied by Heritage Office.
17 photos of Guildford, circa 1902, donated to Linnwood, copied and laminated.

February 2003
Open House Linnwood. Over 300 visitors.
Holroyd Meats will donate 200 sausages each open day for remainder of 2003.
Numerous relevant artifacts have been donated to FOL including cradle rolls from McCredie Uniting Church.
Donor of old piano in hall identified.
Displays by Arts & Crafts, Guildford Model Railway Group, Parramatta-Holroyd Lapiary club, Theatrical Costumes by Christine McKenna.

Linnwood officially placed on NSW State Heritage Register.
Australian flag donated by Laurie Ferguson.
Scale of fees for room hire determined
Garden party held in grounds for Kim Yeadon's election campaign launch.
Re-union held at Linnwood of over 50 former Linnwood girls.
FOL stall in Merrylands as part of Holroyd City Fest.
"Musical Soiree" and supper held at Linnwood as part of Holroyd City Fest.
Wedding photo session held in grounds - $50 payment.
FOL participated in Seniors' Expo at Wentworthville.

Draft Conservation Management Plan and Management Plan and Fabric Survey for Linnwood completed by City Plan Heritage and publically displayed.

Expert restoration by Stan Thomas of louvers on front shutters, damaged during an attempted break-in.
Numerous donations of artifacts to FOL.
Several photograph of Guildford Fire Station and officers, early 1900s copied.
Another reunion of Linnwood Girls with over 40 attending, some with families.
Database now of 80 girls who spent some time at Linnwood.
Complete set CLAN newsletters, book history Parramatta hospital and old cameras donated by Irie Olde.
Linnwood chosen as subject for Community Arts mural project.
NSW Government Heritage Volunteer Award presented to FOL president.
Purchase of 60 stackable chairs for meetings and 6 trestle tables.

Public meeting Linnwood. Guest speaker, Trish Skehan, Concord Heritage Society, with talk on Yaralla and the Walker family.
Pioneers have finally moved into dormitory building behind Linnwood.
Website updated.
Hiring of Linnwood sub-committee presented rates and conditions for hiring of rooms due to increased interest from community groups.
FOL business cards printed.
Many donations of artifacts for FOL.

February 2004
