Business Arising

There was no business arising from the previous minutes.

John McKenna then advised the meeting that reports from the President and Treasurer would be held over for the Annual General Meeting. Copies of these reports will be included with the Minutes of this Public Meeting and the Minutes of the Annual General Meeting, when they are sent to members.

As response for the "Evening with Edgar Penzig" was lower than anticipated, the $20 per person ticket price would be reduced - Ordinary Members ($15.00), Pensioners ($10.00) and Children under 16 years of age ($10.00). Members were asked to express their interest in attending by adding their name to the booking form and, if possible, paying their money today, or to call Dorothy Warwick during the week.

John McKenna advised that Linnwood would be open on Sunday 18 October as part of the Guildford Festival. Devonshire teas would be served for visitors, however the Festival organisers have asked that no entry fee be charged as no other participating community building which was going to be open that day is charging an entry fee. As the Committee is not anticipating great numbers of visitors, we will take advantage of this day by holding a working bee to clear the courtyard between the house and the dormitories, as well as commence cataloguing the artifacts and donations. John McKenna asked if anyone was interested in helping out to put their names on the form being circulated.

John McKenna also advised that following the Open House day on Sunday 7 December, we would hold a Christmas function for Members only, at a cost of $8.00. Interested members should add their name to the booking form, or to phone Dorothy Warwick on 9632 9203.

Judy Lambert raised the matter of recent vandalism, and advised that she had called the Police on three occasions at night. Wondered if pamphlets or similar could be distributed to Linnwood neighbours which would show the telephone number of the security company. It was agreed this would be organised and that a letterbox drop would be undertaken to residents bordering the property. David Mondy wondered if the security company had fridge magnets that could be given out. The Committee would also investigate the use of purple lights which are supposed to be more of a deterrent than bright lights.

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Friends of Linnwood was then held. Please refer to separate minutes.

Guest Speaker

John McKenna welcomed our Cloth Fantasy Dolls exhibitor at Open House days, Erica Portelli, who gave a very interesting talk about Fancy Dress Balls of the 1800's. Erica also quoted from some amusing newspaper clippings of the era, which described some of the costumes which some of the ladies and gentlemen wore to these balls. They were certainly very imaginative and innovative for the times.

Raffle Draw

The raffle was kindly donated by Deli-Cafe 350 and Jan Thomas, and was won by Sue Evans.

The meeting closed at 3.25pm.
